Reyyaz Salley, chairman of the Shaikh Usman Waliyullah mosque, advised CNN that he had repeatedly tried to warn the federal government about radical preachers in Sri Lanka, together with Zahran Hashim, the alleged mastermind of the assaults.
“They began to assault Sufi mosques and shrines (in 2010),” he stated.
In February 2019, Salley despatched police and intelligence officers movies that Hashim made, which Salley thought of selling jihad. He urged them to behave upon it.
“Folks have been brainwashed. He was speaking about jihad. These are all very harmful messages for the nation,” he says.
“If the authorities had taken our recommendation this might have been prevented.”
