In a letter to colleagues Tuesday, Schumer stated Congress must “fill the vacuum” on election safety.
He says the Senate ought to present further assets to beef up state and federal election programs and impose sanctions on Russia or others engaged in “malign actions” to intervene.
Schumer notes that the FBI has referred to as the 2018 election a “gown rehearsal” for the subsequent election. He says senators want a labeled briefing to listen to instantly from the FBI, Homeland Safety and others “on what, if any, actions are underway” to guard the vote.
Senators will meet privately Tuesday for the primary time since Mueller’s report was launched.
