McKee, who was a distinguished journalist, was killed within the Creggan space of Londonderry on Thursday in what police in Northern Eire have described as a “terrorist incident.”
McKee was standing near a police car when she was wounded by a single gunman firing photographs right into a residential space. She died quickly after from her accidents, assistant chief constable Mark Hamilton advised reporters Friday.
Town — which is referred to by Irish nationalists as Derry and British unionists as Londonderry — is a brief drive from the border with the Republic of Eire.
Mckee, who was born in Belfast, is the primary journalist to be killed in the UK since 2001, in keeping with nonprofit group the Committee to Shield Journalists.
